According to a report from the Connecticut Charter Schools Association, during the 2023-2024 school year, more than 5,000 Connecticut students were on a waitlist to enroll in a public charter school.

In the 2022-2023 school year, 95% of all charter schools out-performed schools that serve the same student population in English Language Arts (ELA) and math on the SBAC, the yearly state standardized test. 

North Star Fellowship experience

North Star Fellows are paid one or two full years of a competitive salary with healthcare and benefits. Additionally, Fellows access a wide variety of supports, including:

  • Opportunities for ongoing support once the school is launched.

North Star Fellowship qualifications

The North Star Fellowship is looking for applicants who are ready and excited to engage in a charter school development and launch process in Connecticut. A strong candidate for the North Star Fellowship will possess these qualities:

  • Experience managing teams of adults to achieve outstanding results for students.

  • An ambitious, laser-like focus on academic achievement for all students.

  • A dedication to equity and its impact on students, communities, teachers, and governance.

  • An entrepreneurial drive that uses resilience, fortitude, and visionary solutions to overcome challenges.

  • Able to live and work in Connecticut by the start of the fellowship in late summer 2025.

North Star Fellowship selection process

The North Star Fellowship application process will open in late fall 2024. Additional details, including the application and interview dates, will be available closer to the opening of the application process.

  • Letter of Intent submission period, submissions are reviewed - October 22, 2024 - January 6, 2025

  • Select candidates are notified if they are invited to complete a Full Application - January 2025

  • Candidate interviews begin - February 2025

  • North Star Fellows are selected - Spring 2025

  • North Star Fellowship programming begins - August 2025
